"François Breton," "Breton," and "breveté de S.M.G. M la duchesse d'Angoulême" were trademarks established by Joseph-François Breton, who used them until his death in 1837. However, instruments engraved with this trademark on the neck, and typically predating that year, were actually made by other manufacturers later on, such as the luthiers Henry LAURENT and his brothers Nicolas and Michel Fourier, with production continuing as late as 1887.
