NICOLO FORMAGGIA
Born on January 4th, 1992, into a family that has been working in the musical instrument field for four generations. In 2008, he began attending the International Violin Making School of Cremona, where he studied making new instruments under the guidance of M° Aromatico, and restorations under the guidance of M° Voltini and M° Amighetti. During these years, he had the opportunity to take a retouching course under the guidance of M° Ortona (J&A Beare) while continuing to work on new violins in his father's workshop. In 2012, he graduated, obtaining the Diploma of "Maestro Liutaio".
In 2013, he took a European course on violin setup with a special focus on the acoustic/physical functions of the violin. During this year, he had the opportunity to work under the guidance of M° Primon, Osio, Montanari, Ortona, Gregg Alf, and Ius, and also attended courses from world-renowned professors and experts in all fields concerning violin making, from chemistry to varnishing.
During this course, he attended M° Andrea Shudtz's workshop in via Aselli Cremona.
In July 2015, he attended a Masterclass in Salo (Garda Lake) under the guidance of Mr. Filippo Fasser, with a focus on violin setup, and was awarded a scholarship for the best student.
Today, he works and lives in Crema (Cr) where, in his father's workshop, he makes and restores violins and instruments of the classic string quartet, with a special focus on violin setup.
