Perantucci (Robert Tucci) is a well-known German brand in the tuba mouthpiece world. Its silver-plated versions are the most common, and its designs emphasize tonal balance, response speed, projection, and low-register strength.
Large Cup Diameter → Extremely Powerful, Strong Bass Type (Suitable for large symphony orchestras, those needing extremely strong bass and volume)
- PT-88: Cup diameter ≈ 33.5 mm, deep, rounded cup, throat diameter 8.1 mm. Perantucci's "heavy-duty power tool," with enormous volume, an extremely wide range, and particularly powerful and controlled low notes. Suitable for players who need the maximum dynamic range. Used by many principal tuba players in large symphonies.
- PT-88+: Heavy Shell version of the PT-88, with slight adjustments to the cup and throat + added weight, providing more stability, stronger projection, and a more profound low end. Suitable for large ensembles or outdoor performances.
- PT-86: Cup diameter ≈ 33.7 mm (one of the widest in the series), medium depth, throat diameter 8.3 mm. Designed specifically for players with very large lips, offering a very rich and heavy sound in the low-mid range and extremely high volume. Suitable for those seeking a "broad and deep" tone.
- PT-50: Cup diameter ≈ 33.0 mm, deep semi-funnel-shaped cup, throat diameter 8.3 mm. One of Perantucci's best-selling "large power tools," with a full tone, deep resonance, strong bass, good projection, and acceptable high notes. Known as the "1 1/2C" of the tuba world, it's very versatile and suitable for medium to large tubas.
- PT-50+: Heavy Shell version of the PT-50, with enhanced stability and projection, suitable for players who need more "weight" and control.
Medium-Large Cup Diameter → All-Around / General Purpose (Suitable for most professional and advanced players)
- PT-84: Cup diameter ≈ 32.0 mm, medium-depth bowl-shaped cup, throat diameter 8.0–8.4 mm. Powerful tone, good projection, flexible high register, fast response in the low register. A very popular choice for Eb tubas, and also suitable for all-around use on CC/BBb.
- PT-83: Cup diameter ≈ 32.0–33.0 mm, medium-depth funnel-shaped cup, throat diameter 8.4–8.6 mm. Darker tone with a core, fast response. A general-purpose choice for medium to large tubas, also often used by advanced beginners. A + (heavy) version is available.
- PT-44: Cup diameter ≈ 33.0 mm, medium-large rounded funnel cup, throat diameter 8.4 mm. Excellent response, high flexibility, rich and colorful tone, strong projection. A very classic all-around model, favored by many CC tuba players.
Other Models (More specialized positioning)
- PT-64: Cup diameter ≈ 32.0 mm, shallow bowl-shaped cup, throat diameter 7.8 mm. A classic model primarily designed for F-tuba (also usable on Eb), with extremely fast response, bright and lively tone, extremely strong projection, and easy high notes. One of the most popular mouthpieces for F tuba.
- PT-65: Cup diameter ≈ 32.0 mm, shallow bowl-shaped cup (slightly wider than PT-64), throat diameter 7.8 mm, thicker rim. Very similar to the PT-64, but with a darker, rounder tone and overall more stable. Suitable for modern large-bore F tubas for ensemble/orchestral use.
